Design: Being that I work as a software designer, I guess it's not too surprising that I've done a bunch of coding projects.

Often I undertake a project for no reason other than wanting to learn a new language, application, or technology. I find that nothing teaches like experience, so having a goal that needs to be reached accelerates the learning process for me. So while a number of the sites/projects listed below are no longer used, I don't consider them to have been a waste of time.

Rotary-Dial Records :: www.rotarydial.com

This is the website I did for the record label, Rotary-Dial. It's gone through a number of incarnations and is now simply functional. Nothing too fancy, you know? Just HTML, CSS and JavaScript. And I just use Notepad and my cortex to do this stuff; none of that Frontpage or Dreamweaver nonsense. Go ahead. Laugh at me. Feel good about yourself now?

I do plan on learning Dreamweaver eventually for certain things. Layers, for one.

pointfive :: www.pointfive.com

The website for our band, pointfive. Done in Flash. This was the first major Flash project I did. The problem I had with the previous site is that it was a pain to change some parts, especially those that were updated frequently. So my main focus this time was to make it extensible and easy to apply periodic updates.

To accomplish this I incorporated XML into the sounds and news parts of the site.

The pics part of the site uses image gallery code I wrote in Perl.

Message Boards :: MPS board —> pointfive board

Back in 2003, my friend Pete from the mutli-purpose solution approached me and asked me if I could build them a message board. A few weeks later I'd implemented something I did in Perl and mySQL.

Ths first incarnation of this code was pretty rudimentary, but over time I continued to work on it and improve upon it. I've since put up message boards for numerous groups and uses, from churches to bands to gamer groups. It's grown to have features like an events calendar, private messages, and user-selectable "skins" (using dynamic style sheets).

The most recent version of the code exists as the pointfive message board.

Scotland Travelogue :: www.rotarydial.com/chris/scotland

For my trip to Scotland in August of 2005, I built this little sub-site to keep a journal of my travels. When I returned, I added a gallery of pictures I'd taken. Both were coded in Perl and mySQL.
